If ONYX is down
Agents get a 503 with the message ONYX DOWN and a retry-after header, so they wait and retry instead of failing mid-task. If they can't connect at all, the pool's computer is off or unreachable.

About ONYX
Free flagship AI models, pooled into one endpoint.
ONYX stacks many free model providers behind one address. When one is rate-limited the next one answers, so chats and coding agents keep going. It's run by one person on their own computer, for friends.
Is this Claude, GPT or Fable?
No. Those aren't free from any legitimate provider. ONYX runs open and free-tier flagship models: Kimi, GLM, DeepSeek, Qwen, Nemotron, MiniMax and others.
Is it unlimited?
No. It stacks many small free quotas. Heavy use can hit them all at once; then requests wait until the limits reset.
Is my data private?
Your saved chats are encrypted with your key. The free providers that answer may still log prompts, so keep secrets out of it.
Who can use the provider accounts I add?
Only you. Their keys are encrypted with your ONYX key and used only for your requests. The server decrypts a key in memory to make a call, so you're trusting whoever runs the pool, as with any hosted service.
What does "ONYX DOWN" mean?
The model router behind the site isn't answering. Agents get that message with a retry hint and pick up again when it's back.
Why did I get a 429?
Either your key's limit or every provider behind that model was busy. Wait a minute, or switch to onyx-auto.
I lost my key
Ask the owner for a new one. Your saved chats and provider accounts were encrypted with the old key, so they can't come back.

A free https address for friends anywhere, with no port forwarding. Everyone still needs a key; the owner panel is never reachable through it.
Tailscale Funnel gives a fixed address that never changes and streams replies properly. It starts at login by itself. Only this computer runs Tailscale; friends just use the link.
